When I considered adding an inspirational design quote to my seventh portfolio in 2023, this was the only contender. It’s a fairly simple and self-explanatory quote that captures the range of reactions elicited by design efforts. “WOW!” signifies deep admiration and astonishment, marking the highest point of success for a designer. It indicates that a design is outstanding, leaving a lasting impression on its viewers, and is therefore the goal to aim for.
I often recall this quote not just when I’m contemplating design, but in other areas of my life as well. Those words inspire and challenge me to give my best, and they serve as a reminder that when faced with the choice between mediocrity, proficiency, or brilliance, it’s always better to aim for the latter!
